National Public Health Week Educational Programs Highlight - Community Outreach and Education Programs

Posted 04/05/22

While many people know that the Health Department has several different types of medical programs, some of our other programs are not as well known.  The Health Department continues to develop and build on several community education programs.  Many of these programs had to be on hold during the height of the COVID 19 Pandemic, we are once again restarting many of these programs.

The Health Department provides several types of educational programs within Marshall County Schools through the outreach efforts of the Dental Hygienist and other medical staff.  Some of the programs offered in the schools are dental hygiene programs, smoking and vaping education, healthy eating and hand washing and hygiene.

Some additional educational programs we offer are:

  • First Aid / CPR / AED trainings in accordance with the course criteria established by the American Heart Association and in association the Wheeling Hospital Training Center for the general public and health care providers.  Family and Friends CPR is also able to be offered where the participants are trained in CPR but do not have the need for a certification card, generally for employment purposes.
  • Stop the Bleed Training through the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma to provide anyone with the knowledge of what to do in case of they encounter someone with severe bleeding due to a multitude of reasons.
  • Food Handler and Person in Charge Training for those working within the food service industry to provide education on proper food handling and monitoring.

Many of these courses are now being offered at the Health Department and could also be offered at outside locations.  Please contact the Health Department directly to find out more information.
