2025/2026 Food Handlers Class Information and Dates
Food Handlers Classes
ALL CLASSES REQUIRE PRE-REGISTRATION BY CALLING THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT AND SCHEDULING TO ENROLL IN A CLASS
Food Handlers Classes are for those working with foods and food service. The Health Department requires all food service workers to have a current food handlers card, issued by the Health Department.
This course is required for all Marshall County employees that handle food and/or wash dishes. The purpose of this course is to reduce foodborne illness and teach sanitary food practices. The course covers the proper food handling practices that are required under the 2013 FDA Food Code. Employees must obtain a valid food service worker card within thirty (30) days of hire, and a copy of this card must be kept at the place of employment. Employees without a current card after thirty (30) days must be taken off of the schedule until a current card is issued.
Person in Charge (PIC) trainings
Please note that the Marshall County Health Department will no longer be offering in-person PIC classes from July 2025.
Person in Charge Trainings provide information necessary for all designated PICs, as well as managers, owners and operators of resturaunts and other facilities within Marshall County. This training covers the 2013 FDA Food Code. Food service facilities are required to have a Person In Chage (PIC) at all times the establishment is open. The inability to demonstrate PIC status or provide a ServSafe Certificate is a critical violation and a re-inspection fee of $100.00 will be assessed.
Online Food Handler Program
The Marshall County Health Department has partnered with www.statefoodsafety.com to offer online food service workers classes and food protection manager courses for purchase. Please note that this is currently the only online platform recognized by the Health Department. Individuals whose schedule does not allow them to attend in person classes should participate in this program as an alternative (additional fees apply). No pre-registration is required.
